I attended the Salina Zero Waste Initiative committee meeting last week. We reviewed an engineering study of the waste currently entering the landfill. Can you guess the top category by weight?
I was surprised that the top two categories were... paper/cardboard then plastic. These two categories, which are both highly recyclable, make up over a third of trash entering the landfill. The ZWI is exploring ways to make it easier to keep these materials out of the dump. There will be a public meeting in the next few months as plans are developed. #civic engagement

Fans coming to the JV Football game this evening, be sure to bring plenty of water, gatorade and snacks.
