Information: The Distinguished Scholarship Invitational (DSI) is one of the largest undergraduate scholarships awarded in Kansas.  The competition will take place in mid-November.   The student must submit application materials to WSU by October 15, 2020, with scholarship applications due November 1.

Information:  The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship designed to help high-achieving students from small towns and rural areas graduate college debt-free.  The scholarship provides up to $48,000 over four years to attend college.  Recipients must enroll at an eligible four-year not-for-profit college or university the first semester following high school graduation.

Name: RUDD FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Demonstrated financial need (Pell-eligible). Must be admitted and will attend either Emporia State, Fort Hays State, or Wichita State University. 

Information:  The Rudd Scholarship is a Kansas program for Kansas residents who qualify for a Pell Grant and gives preference to first-generation and underrepresented students. The Rudd Scholarship is a competitive, 4-year award designed to pay any remaining costs associated with tuition and fees, books and supplies, and room and board after accounting for all other grants, scholarships, and financial awards. It can be applied only towards studies at either Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, or Wichita State University for full-time students in pursuit of an undergraduate degree provided a student maintains the renewal criteria below.

Who Should Apply:  Students who have been employed by the Salina Country Club within the 24 previous months, have a 2.0+ GPA, and display strong characteristics in leadership, community service, extra-curricular school activities and/or employment.

Information:  This scholarship honors two individuals who displayed great devotion to the Salina Country Club, its members, and the employees; Wally Beets, an accomplished golfer, teacher, and Golf Professional and John Marino a devoted and proficient General Manager. Wally’s and John’s dedication to their jobs was beyond that of what was normally expected of individuals holding positions such as theirs at other country clubs.  Through their efforts, the Salina Country Club came to enjoy great success as a Club and is, to this day, recognized as being one of the truly great Clubs of Kansas. This was accomplished with considerably less financial resources than other high profile Clubs in Kansas and could have only occurred because of their incredible commitment.  In keeping with both Wally’s and John’s spirit, the fund was established to benefit selected current or former employees in their pursuit of further education beyond their high school education. Wally and John appreciated young hardworking teenagers who gave great service and worked to improve themselves through their own efforts. Wally and John both encouraged these types of individuals and would love nothing more than to help young men and women to reach their goals.

Who Should Apply:  Students planning to attend North Central Kansas Technical College to obtain a degree in one or more of the building trades.

Information:  The Olson family lived and farmed in Cloud County, Kansas for many years.  Alma Olson raised four children – Michael, Mary, Viola and Gladys. At the age of 13, when his father died, Michael took responsibility for his family farm and helped his mother with the home and cousins who had come to live with them.  Michael was a skilled farmer and a generous man. The scholarship is intended for applicants who are planning to attend North Central Kansas Technical College and plan on obtaining a degree in one or more of the building trades (electrician, bricklayer, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, etc.)

Who Should Apply: African-American students with a 3.0 GPA who have graduated from a Saline County High School.

Information:  The Booker T. Washington scholarship fund was started with the proceeds from the sale of the former Booker T. Washington Negro Center, located at 345 N. Front. It was designed for African American children and was founded as a private enterprise by Miss Janet Porter in 1939. After her death in 1943, the center was operated by the Porter family with aid from the Community Chest.  In 1978 the City completed construction of the Carver Center, and the Porter family felt the Booker T. Washington Center was no longer needed. They closed the center, donating all the equipment to the Carver Center, and the property was given to the YWCA. The Y sold the property and used the proceeds to establish the Booker T. Washington Scholarship Fund.

Information: The Jeanne B. Marts Scholarship was established to provide assistance to Salina area students who are intending to major in elementary or secondary education.  Applicants should be a graduate from a Salina County High School, be in good standing, have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, be involved in extracurricular activities, demonstrate leadership in school or community activities, and be accepted to an accredited college with an intended major of elementary or secondary education.

Information: The family and friends of Jody Fredrickson, desiring to continue her memory, established a scholarship to a student for the purpose of promoting continued education.  Preference is given to the nursing field, but all other health-related fields will be considered. Applicants must plan to major in nursing or another health-related field, be accepted for admission to qualified post-secondary school, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA, must have demonstrated respect for students and citizens of the school and community, must have demonstrated leadership through active participation in school and community activities, must show reverence and concern for life, and must have good school attendance.

Information: AFA and its partners award annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate students enrolled in agriculture and food-related degree programs across the U.S. Awards vary in amounts, but are at least $1,600 and include sponsorship to AFA Leaders Conference (worth $1,250). The only cost to the student is the time spent filling out the application and travel expenses to AFA Leaders Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

Information: The Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) offers scholarships to reward students who have demonstrated quality leadership during their high school years. There are four $500 awards available each academic year, which may be used at KACRAO member institutions. The scholarships will be designated as follows; one per school type: four-year public, four-year private, community college, and technical college. The awards are not need-based and may be used in conjunction with other awards.

Information: The Kansas Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture was formed in 1998 and since its inception, the foundation has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide scholarships and grants which fund programs and projects designed to help improve agriculture and the quality of life in rural Kansas. The three areas of emphasis and action are: 

  • Develop leaders who understand the importance of agriculture in making sure Kansas’ rural communities remain strong and vital

  • Educate Kansans (especially those who live in our cities and suburbs) about how agriculture plays such an important role in their daily lives

  • Provide scholarships for students who desire to pursue their life's work in agriculture

Applicants must be a high school senior, be a member of the Farm Bureau in Kansas, enrolled/planning to enroll in an accredited college or university in Kansas, and majoring in the agricultural or related field of study.

Information:  

The Kansas County Clerks' and Election Officials' Association awards scholarships annually to Kansas high school seniors and college freshmen and sophomores, provided they carry a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The scholarships are for those students who major in Journalism, Political Science, Communications, or Business.  This scholarship has been in place for several years and was started by the funds the KCCEOA received from the Associated Press and major news outlets for election night reporting. The bulk of the funding now comes from donations and from funds received through a silent auction held annually at the spring conference of the association. Conference participants bring items either donated or purchased for the auction and the conference attendees bid on them throughout the conference.

This scholarship program has awarded hundreds of scholarships to the youth of Kansas over the years and hopes to continue to do so in the years to come.

Information:  The Schmidt Foundation Scholars scholarship is a $14,900 award made possible through the generous gifts of the Schmidt Foundation. This amount includes 30 hours of tuition and fees for fall and spring courses, books, room, and board. Recipients have the opportunity to renew their scholarship for up to three additional years if eligibility requirements continue to be met.
